Device compatibility
Check the exact model, where it was sold and its carrier-lock status. A model family or an EID alone does not guarantee that a travel eSIM can be installed.

iPhone
iPhone XS, XS Max, XR and later support eSIM, with some sales-region exceptions. In Settings → General → About, tap Model Number to see the A-number.
Mainland-China and some Hong Kong or Macao models have different SIM capabilities. Use Apple’s region-specific list below rather than the year the phone was bought.
Google Pixel
eSIM and dual SIM on Pixel depend on the model and carrier; a Pixel 3a bought in Japan doesn’t support dual SIM. Check your exact regional variant.
Look for Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add SIM. The installed Android version can change the menu wording.
Samsung Galaxy and other Android phones
Samsung supports eSIM on selected Galaxy models. Check the manufacturer’s specifications for the exact regional model and look for Settings → Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM.
Samsung publishes separate guidance for phones sold in mainland China, where both the eligible models and the installation rules differ. Check the variant sold in your country, not the model name alone.
For other Android phones or tablets, ask the manufacturer whether they work with travel eSIMs. Being new, having 5G or two SIM slots doesn’t mean eSIM support.

Check that the phone is unlocked #
On iPhone, Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock should say “No SIM restrictions”. If not, ask the carrier that locked it to unlock it. Paying off the phone doesn’t mean it’s unlocked.
On Android, ask the original carrier whether your phone is unlocked. Seeing “Add eSIM” doesn’t mean it isn’t locked.
Phones bought in mainland China: check where installation is allowed #
For iPhones bought in mainland China (eligible models are in Apple’s guide), a non-mainland carrier eSIM can only be installed outside mainland China with Location Services on.
Android has the same restriction. Samsung states that on Galaxy models sold in mainland China, an eSIM from a carrier outside the mainland can’t be installed while you’re there. Download it outside the mainland, or in Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan.
So even if a plan starts on first connection, you may not be able to install it at home. Plan for Wi-Fi when you land, and check the start rule before buying.
Check the available eSIM slots #
The number of profiles a phone can store and the number of lines it can use at once are different limits. Confirm both if you need your home number active or plan to buy several country eSIMs.
Do not delete an existing Simvito profile to test another one. Our QR codes are for one installation; ask support first if you need to make space.
Confirm before choosing a plan #
Not sure? Before paying, send us the model number, where it was sold and its carrier-lock status in the live chat or by email to support@simvito.com.
Then choose a destination. For several countries, add the others on that destination’s page.
